Anderson and Chacon Win the AVP Women's Final
It is a first AVP title for Maddie Anderson and Alaina Chacon, who went in at Laguna as the fourth seed and beat Brazil's Victoria and Thamela in two. Taylor Crabb beat his brother Trevor in the men's final.
Maddie Anderson and Alaina Chacon won the women's title at the Progressive AVP Laguna Open on 20 September, the last event of the tour's 2026 season. They beat Brazil's Victoria and Thamela 21-19, 21-15.
It is the first AVP title either of them has won. Anderson hit .500 on 24 swings without an error, blocked twice and served two aces.
They went in as the fourth seed. The three women's teams the AVP had put above them were Kelly Cheng and Megan Kraft, Savvy Cory and Devon Newberry, and the Brazilians they beat in the final.
Andy Benesh and Taylor Crabb won the men's title, 21-15, 21-19 against Chase Budinger and Trevor Crabb, who is Taylor's brother.
The two brothers had been seeded into opposite halves of the men's draw when the AVP published its field on 16 September, and the draw held all the way to the last match of the season.
Taylor Crabb had 22 kills on 38 swings for a .421 clip, 15 digs and four aces in the final. Budinger hit .429 and blocked four on the other side of the net.
Travis Mewhirter of Sandcast, who was on site, counts Benesh and Crabb's win as their fourth in California this season, after Huntington, Manhattan and Hermosa.
He also records Anderson and Chacon as the first Florida State players to win an AVP event since Jace Pardon in 2019.
Each Crabb brother ends the season holding one of the tour's last two men's titles. Trevor won the AVP's championship in Chicago with Phil Dalhausser earlier this month, and Taylor won Laguna with Benesh a fortnight after it.
