Florida Hands Baylor Its First Loss
Kamryn Chaney hit .786 as No. 17 Florida swept No. 20 Baylor in Waco. Colorado went five sets with New Mexico and stayed unbeaten at 5-0.
No. 17 Florida swept No. 20 Baylor 3-0 (25-13, 25-23, 25-19) at the Ferrell Center on Saturday, the first loss of Baylor's season and the second ranked win of Florida's.
Florida hit .281 and held Baylor to .046. Kamryn Chaney had 12 kills at .786, which Florida records as the fifth-best single-match hitting percentage in its history, and Taylor Parks set 37 assists behind her.
Baylor were the third stop on a four-match road swing that has already taken Florida through No. 11 Minnesota and No. 5 Wisconsin. Two wins from those three, all of them away, is the best fortnight anybody outside the top fifteen has had this season.
Per Ryan Theis, the Florida head coach, in his own athletic department's report.
“Just really impressed with set one, we didn't get Baylor's best in that one, but we were super clean.”
Baylor hit .046 for the match and lost the middle set by two, so Theis is being generous about one of those numbers and accurate about the other.
Colorado are 5-0 and the only unbeaten team on Saturday's board. They beat New Mexico 3-2 (25-19, 25-27, 23-25, 25-16, 15-6) in Boulder after losing two straight sets at home, and Ana Burilovic finished with 25 kills.
Cayla Payne had 17 kills and six blocks alongside her and Jenna Ylivainio set a career-high 55 assists. Arizona State swept Villanova 3-0 and No. 10 Creighton beat Pepperdine 3-1 in the two other completed matches of note.
Baylor and Florida were the only ranked pair on Saturday's board, and the number that decided it was .046.
